Summary:   While being in the pet care industry has numerous rewards, there are often difficult times that one experiences. Pet sitters and veterinary technicians, among others, will sooner or later find themselves in the position of having to console an owner who has lost a beloved furry friend while in their care. Being prepared on how to handle these situations ahead of time can help ensure a successful experience.

Recently I was consulted on an article on what to do when a pet in your care dies. While the article is aimed at pet sitters, there are many career positions within the animal care industry that would have one in the charge of a client’s beloved pet.

Because I myself have several times been in this position over the years, I find it important for to know what to do ahead of time. Making the phone call to your client to break this type of news is heartbreaking all around.
