—Born Free USA, The Humane Society of the United States, and the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) applaud the Oregon House of Representatives for passing legislation to prohibit the keeping of certain wild animals as pets. The bill, S.B. 391, passed the House Wednesday by a vote of 43 to 15. It was approved by the state Senate in March. The bill returns to the Senate for a final vote before being sent to Gov. Ted Kulongoski for his signature.
In the days before a dolphin named Sgt. Pepper died last week at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, two animal rights organizations had filed a complaint against the Mirage’s request to import two more dolphins for its habitat.

As the circus prepares to open June 11 in Colorado Springs, Born Free USA, a plaintiff in the trial, is asking Colorado Springs residents to review the evidence before buying a ticket that supports animal cruelty.
Born Free USA, a leading national wildlife advocacy organization, is calling on Ohio legislators to immediately ban the ownership of dangerous exotic animals after a 10-year-old girl was mauled by a mountain lion kept as a pet in Columbiana County.
