This is the story of Bella the dog, and Tarra the elephant. An unlikely pair of down-on-their luck animals, who found each other at the Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee, and became fast friends. If this doesn’t make you smile a little, I don’t know what will.

Michael Vick was released from prison today, after his two year stay for federal dog fighting charges. Was his punishment enough? You weigh-in.

Meet Ned. Ned was a 21 year old, male, Asian Elephant. He was born into captivity at Busch Gardens Amusement Park, where he was later sold into circus life at the age of two.

Recently, I was contacted by Dr. Kristen Nelson, a veterinarian, regarding Macho B, the jaguar that was trapped, and subsequently euthanized, by the Arizona Department of Game and Fish. She had some serious concerns and questions revolving around the circumstance’s of Macho B’s death. She directed me to her own website, which included a detailed list of her concerns. I have included this below, as well as a link to her website.

This article, from The Register was recently brought to my attention. PETA is requesting that the Pet Shop Boys change their name to, the Animal Shelter Boys. I would love to hear everyone’s feedback and thoughts on PETA’s latest request.

The day came when I inevitably had enough of county shelter life, and decided to leave to preserve what little sanity I had left. About the same time that I had made this decision, the shelter received a small little goat that had been found wandering the rural streets of a nearby city. I did not want him, under any circumstances, to go to public auction. How do I smuggle a goat out of animal control?

I wanted to follow-up yesterday’s post, “Confessions of a Euthanasia Technician”, with a story that has a happy ending, because for each heartbreak, we have many happy endings. And it is those happy endings that keep us going in the tough work that we do. They are that “light at the end of the tunnel” that gives us a little glimmer of hope that the work we do is not in vain.
